Our class has been having some exciting visitors to our classroom for the past several weeks.  The SCA, or Student Conservation Association, will be spending 10 weeks delivering one-hour lessons on a variety of science topics, focusing on New Hampshire.  Here are some pictures of our first lesson, in which students introduced themselves to the SCA team, learned about our SCA leaders, and decorated nature journals.

Don't forget to vote!  Students participated in a mock election.  Using iPads, we chose our favorite candidate.  The results?  The Democratic and overall winner was Hillary Clinton, and the Republican winner was Donald Trump.  Here are some photos of our first vote:

We'd like to give a big thank you to all the families who donated fruit for our fruit tasting.  Students were excited to enjoy a healthy snack and try something new (like star fruit)!

Did you know...By June of third grade, students should ideally be reading 123 words per minute.  Practicing fluency by reading aloud daily is an important part of our school day.  Students should also practice regularly at home.

Today our class participated in in the international computer science program, "Hour of Code."  Students chose from "Frozen," "Star Wars," "Angry Birds," and "Minecraft" programs which required them to write lines of code to accomplish specific tasks and puzzles.  Thanks to Mrs. Overmeyer for bringing us this special opportunity!

Thank you to all the families who donated snacks for our healthy harvest day!  Students also travelled from classroom to classroom in our third grade hallway, participating in different fall-themed events at each stop.  Here are some pictures of our class completing bean mosaics with Mrs. Ux:

We have started a new math chapter: "Mental Math and Estimation."  As part of our introduction to this new chapter, students were asked to create short skits about purchasing items and estimating costs.  The skit which best fit the directions and goals of the chapter was created and presented by...Payton, Taylor, Isabella, and Rowan! Great teamwork!  I am proud of you!
