We have started a new math chapter: "Mental Math and Estimation."  As part of our introduction to this new chapter, students were asked to create short skits about purchasing items and estimating costs.  The skit which best fit the directions and goals of the chapter was created and presented by...Payton, Taylor, Isabella, and Rowan! Great teamwork!  I am proud of you!

Way to go, Miss Fremeau's class!  Did you know that students can earn popcorn parties for respectful, responsible, and safe behavior in their Unified Arts classes?  Students in our class have been doing a great job in their specials, and have already earned their privilege!  Keep up the great work!  I am so proud of your effort and behavior!

As part of our Science unit entitled "Plant Growth and Development," students planted fast-growing Brassica plants.  We were lucky enough to have Mrs. Veilleux (one of our recent third grade retirees),  volunteer her day to help all of our third graders with the planting process.  Thank you, Mrs. Veilleux!

Math update:  In Mathematics, we have been studying place value.  We have also been working with number patterns like "skip counting," and adding or subtraction any of the 4 place values we have learned (ones, tens, hundreds, thousands).  The vocabulary terms "standard form," "word form," and "expanded form" have also been reviewed and practiced.  Please check out the "Math" section of our class website to see the Chapter 1 Review.  We will take our Chapter 1 test this week.  Here are some pictures of our class completing a place value activity; please note how all the students pictured did a great job working together!

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  MISS FREMEAU'S CLASS IS A "PEANUT/NUT SAFE CLASSROOM."

This means that one or more students in our classroom has an allergy to nuts/peanuts.  Please note that students with allergies may experience serious and even life-threatening reactions if they are exposed to foods to which they are allergic.

As all HMS staff is concerned about the safety and well-being of all of our students, we have developed a list of recommendations to ensure that all students are safe:

-  If at all possible, please try to avoid sending in snacks that contain peanuts/nuts.
-  If your child has peanut butter or nuts for a snack, please remind him/her not to share
food and to wash his/her hands after eating.
-  A student may be asked to wash his/her desk after eating products that contain nuts or
peanuts.  *Wipes have been provided by the school.

Please note that our school has a peanut/nut safe table in the cafeteria for students who have allergies and wish to sit at that table.

Thank you for helping us to keep all of our classmates safe!

We had a very successful first week in third grade.  Much of our time has been spent learning the rules, routines, and procedures of our school and classroom.  We will continue to practice these expectations regularly for the next 5 weeks.  Please take the time to discuss good classroom work habits with your student!

Here are a few friendly reminders:
1.  We have gym on Fridays - please send sneakers with your student.
2.  It can get quite warm in our classroom; I recommend sending in an ice water to keep
     cool.
